What is Capoeira?

Capoeira is a fast paced Brazilian art form that combines powerful kicks, acrobatics, take-downs, dance, play and physical communication.  Capoeirea is a great way to get fit using a wide range of movements that are derived from elements of dance, martial arts, and acrobatics while being both physically and mentally challenging. It is one of the most amazing and beautiful art forms to watch.

Most of all, Capoeira is  FUN.

ABOUT A2 CAPOEIRA

Ann Arbor Capoeira - Cordão de Ouro (CDO)

Ann Arbor Capoeira (A2C) practices the “Cordão de Ouro” (CDO) style of capoeira, developed by one of the first formal capoeira groups in Brazil in 1967.

A2C is open to all members of the Ann Arbor community. Individuals from all skill levels- with or without prior experience- are welcome to join. Capoeira provides an avenue for self defense, creativity, physical fitness, and musicality. Members will learn the songs of Capoeira; as well as the culture, traditions, and history behind it.

A2C also organizes events for exposure to other aspects of Brazilian culture, such as samba and maculelê.

A2 Capoeira goals:

1) To provide opportunities for social interaction, leadership, and fellowship through the art of Capoeira

2) To promote cardiovascular health and provide a local foundation to support Capoeira classes and workshops for adults and children of all ages and abilities.

The CDO style is characterized by a powerful, beautiful fluid game enhanced by personal expression; and yet still strongly rooted in tradition.
